An industrial gear manufacturer was attempting a second deployment of an ERP solution after failing on their first attempt with losses exceeding $10MM. Root-cause analysis of the previous loss highlighted a lack of risk controls and project planning during their first attempt. A two-day training class was provided for the entire project team—along with project manager coaching—to develop and institutionalize risk management principles into the new ERP project. The risk management processes were kept simple and agile so that the team adopted them without pushback. Because of the training and project risk management implementation, the team successfully and proactively identified risks and achieved ERP deployment near their planned baselines.
